Tower Types and Structure

Ground communication towers come in three main types: lattice towers, monopoles, and guyed towers.   • Telecommunications Main Grounding Busbar (TMGB): Located at the entrance facility, connecting all incoming cables and equipment to the main electrical ground .
  • Telecommunications Grounding Busbar (TGB): Installed in each telecom room, connected to the TMGB via the Telecommunications Bonding Backbone (TBB) .
  • Bonding Conductors: Connect equipment racks, ladder racks, and building steel to the grounding system, usually with a minimum 6 AWG copper conductor . Standards such as IEEE 142, IEEE 1100, and ANSI/TIA/EIA-607 guide grounding practices, ensuring protection against lightning, surges, and differing ground potentials .

Antennas mounted on the tower are the primary functional components, responsible for transmitting and receiving signals. Panel antennas are directional, focusing signals in specific directions, while other types may provide omnidirectional coverage.
