VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) segment network traffic to isolate departments or services. Configuring VLANs on a core switch allows inter-department communication through Layer 3 VLAN interfaces while maintaining traffic separation for security and efficiency. VLAN interfaces can also be assigned IP addresses to enable routing between VLANs .
Link aggregation combines multiple physical ports into a single logical link to increase bandwidth and provide redundancy. This ensures high availability between the core switch and access switches, preventing network downtime if a single link fails .
STP prevents network loops in redundant topologies. H3C switches support RSTP, CSTP, and MSTP, allowing administrators to select the appropriate protocol for fast convergence and loop prevention. Configuring STP ensures stable Layer 2 connectivity across the network .
The core switch can act as a DHCP server, dynamically assigning IP addresses to clients. DHCP snooping on access switches prevents unauthorized DHCP servers from distributing IP addresses, enhancing network security. IPSG (IP Source Guard) can also be enabled to verify source IP and MAC addresses .
Individual ports can be enabled or disabled, assigned to VLANs, or configured for trunking. Trunk ports carry multiple VLANs between switches, while access ports connect end devices to a single VLAN. Port aggregation and speed limits can also be configured to optimize performance .
H3C core switches support port-based MAC address binding, anti-ARP attack commands, and SNMP configuration. These features protect against unauthorized access, ARP spoofing, and allow network monitoring and management .
Management interfaces can be configured with IP addresses for Telnet, SSH, or web access. Administrators can define user accounts with different access levels, ensuring secure and controlled access to the switch configuration .
The core switch can communicate with egress routers through VLAN interfaces, with default routes configured to forward traffic to external networks. This enables inter-VLAN routing and connectivity to the Internet or other external networks .
Each configuration on an H3C core switch serves a specific function: VLANs and routing manage traffic segmentation, link aggregation and STP ensure high availability, DHCP and security features protect network integrity, and management interfaces provide secure administrative access. Proper configuration of these features ensures a reliable, scalable, and secure campus network.
